Decline reason
A decline reason is why a funder turned a deal down: revenue too low, too many positions, NSFs, restricted industry or state, credit, missing stips and similar.
Also called MCA decline, funder decline, decline code
Common reasons include insufficient revenue, short time in business, too many existing positions or too high a holdback, excessive NSFs or negative days, declining deposits, low credit, a restricted industry or state, an open position with the same funder, incomplete stips and failed verification.
Recording declines as structured reasons rather than free text pays off twice. You learn which funders really decline what (and can correct their stored criteria), and you can report on why deals die across the whole shop.
